A
fishing
pole is one of the oldest tools of mankind. Of course,
over the years, fishing poles have improved greatly, but the basic
function and mechanics remain the same. A fishing pole still allows
an angler to cast a line into a body of water with the purpose of
catching a fish. Of course, these days, fishing poles are used more
for sport than for necessity. Most of our commercially sold fish
are caught by net.
There are three main types of fishing poles. These include fly
fishing poles, bait casting poles, and spin casting poles. The materials
and the uses of these fishing poles differ: fly fishing rods are
sometimes made of bamboo and they are flexible with large eyes.
Bait casting rods are usually made from graphite or fiberglass and
have cork handles and are 6 to 7 feet long and stiff. They are usually
used for catching large fish. Spin casting fishing poles are also
of graphite or fibergalass with a cork handle, but they are generally
a bit shorter than the bait casting rods.
