Flyfishing
vests are more than just a piece of fishing apparel.
They are so much more! They can be tools. They can be tackle boxes.
You can use your fly fishing vests to store pretty much anything
that you are going to need when you are out on the river or lake.
Here are some tips to help you find the right flyfishing vests
for you:
- Where do you fish? This is very important to consider when shopping
for flyfishing vests. The vest that you choose will depend upon
the conditions of where you most regularly fish. Does it rain
a lot? Will it be warm? Etc. If you generally fish in warm weather,
look for flyfishing vests with mesh panels for better ventilation.
You can always layer under it, if need be. And, in fact, if you
fish in colder weather, be sure that your vest has plenty of room
for you to add layers beneath it.
- Accessibility - you want to have everything you need within
easy reach. You want to be sure that the pockets of your flyfishing
vest are easy to open and close (with one hand). Velcro is generally
good. Make sure that you have enough pockets to fit everything
you need, and realize that it is ok to leave a few pockets empty
- you don't want to be bogged down with extra weight.
- Length - short is good. You want to be able to wade deep without
getting your flyfishing vests wet.
- Freedom of movement - you need to be sure that your flyfishing
vests offer you a great range of movement, even when loaded up
with all of your gear. You do not want any flyfishing vests to
get in the way of your casting!
Good flyfishing vests can be anglers' best friends when out on
the water. When they reel in their fish, they want to have all the
tools they need on hand so that they can easily net it, unhook it,
and release it (or keep it). They want to be able to get to a new
lure and everything else that they need, with ease. They want to
be the right temperature while wearing their flyfishing vests. And
they want to be wearing flyfishing vests that do not hinder their
movements in the least bit.
