Any
successful fly fisherman knows that the right flyfishing
equipment can make all the difference. Any angler who
does not know this simply has not found the right flyfishing equipment,
yet!
Alright, so this may seem a little extreme. Clearly, even the best
flyfishing equipment is not going to help out someone who does not
know how to cast, and an expert fisherman can catch a fish with
little more than a line and a hook.
However, that being said, the right flyfishing equipment can really
make a big difference. Flyfishing is a sport, and just as with other
sports, you need to have good equipment to “play” it
well. Think of a marathon runner jogging in little more than socks
or a quarterback football player playing a loose helmet and a deflated
ball. It is the same thing to place an angler out on the river with
a rod that is not balanced to the reel as it is to place a basketball
player on the court with slick soles.
There is no denying that the right equipment is important, no matter
which sport you are participating in. And, as stated above, flyfishing
most definitely is a sport.
Of course, perhaps, instead of thinking of flyfishing as a sport,
you prefer to think of it as an art. This, too, is true. The motions
of casting are as beautiful and as mesmerizing as a ballet. The
strokes that the rod and line paint across the sky and across the
water are distinct and exquisite.
And, as with arts, you definitely need the right flyfishing equipment
to perfect the art of flyfishing. Without the right paints and brushes,
and artist has little more than a canvas. Without the right rod
and flies and other flyfishing equipment, an angler is little more
than a bystander.
So, if you are planning on getting started in the wonderful sport
and art of flyfishing, be sure to take the right flyfishing equipment
along with you. You do not need to drop tons of money on your flyfishing
equipment… yet. Just get some generally good flyfishing equipment.
You can get the absolute best flyfishing equipment once you have
proven your love for the sport/art… then it will be worth
the few extra dollars.
