What
are the most important fly
fishing supplies? Well, although you likely already
know, I am going to go over them very quickly.
The most important fly fishing supplies are:
Fly rod
Fly line
Reel
Flies
Of course, that being said, there are many different rods and lines
and reels and flies that an angler must choose between. An angler
must make sure that his or her rod, line, and reel match in weight.
An angler must decide which flies are best for a certain area and
time of year and fish, etc.
So, overall, when you are picking out your fly fishing supplies,
you are most definitely going to want to spend the most time (and
money) on the above four items. However, these are not the only
fly fishing supplies that you are going to want: they are simply
the ones that you will need.
Other fly fishing supplies that you can slowly add to your “collection”
include:
Fly fishing vest, chest pack, or vest pack. You are going to want
most of your flies and important tools, etc. right at hand when
you are fishing.
Tackle box and fly boxes… make sure that all of your flies
last a long time by storing them in fly boxes. Be sure to dry them
out thoroughly before storing them away.
Waders. You really only need these if you plan on fishing during
cooler months or in cooler climates. Otherwise, you can fish from
the bank (and not worry about disturbing important aquatic life)
or wade out in some fishing boots.
Fishing boots or sandals. These will help you keep sure footing
if you choose to wade into the waters.
Fly fishing tools (like nippers, pliers, hook removing tools, etc.)
Lanyards and retractors (for attaching tools easily to vests and
to keep them within easy reach)
Fly fishing boat. A pontoon, inflatable kayak, float tube, drift
boat, etc., allow you to float down a river and fish even more spots
and spots that are unreachable on foot.

Fly tying tools. Fly tying is a hobby. Not all anglers enjoy it,
but it could be something that you thoroughly enjoy and would love
to pick up.
